Tornado recovery for South Moravia

On June 24th, a horrific tornado struck South Moravia. Six people were killed and over 200 were injured. An estimated 1,200 homes were damaged and 2,000 people were left without electricity. Damage is worst in the villages of Hrušky, Moravská Nová Ves, Mikulčice and Lužice.

Via Foundation launched a fundraising drive just hours after the tornado hit to provide direct relief and fund community revitalization projects. In just 5 days, donors have given an amazing $8.6 million (CZK $185 million) and we are continuing to fundraise as the scope of damage becomes better understood.

We’re helping these communities recover and rebuild for their future. Here’s how:

Phase 1. We are sending almost $1 million to municipalities to cover urgent needs

Phase 2. We’re sending direct aid to families ($7000/family plus more based on need)

Phase 3. We’re giving almost $1 million for longer-term revitalization projects thatrejuvenate community spirit and build strong bonds between residents to help themwithstand inevitable future crises. We will use our expertise in participatory planningto ensure that these projects are inclusive and sustainable.

Please consider giving to help tornado victims now and in the months to come. You can donate here.

Thank you to everyone who has given to the fundraising drive! Together we can make a difference.
